For widowed singles

Loving again is not forgetting.

It is choosing life a second time, with a history you are not asked to apologise for. If you are reading this, you already know what it costs. This page will not pretend otherwise.

The short answer

Your marital status is on your profile, so the people you meet already know and chose to be there. There is no feed, so you are not on display and nobody is browsing you. Every member has verified a government-issued identity document. And you are shown one person at a time, with the reasons written out.

What makes this different from where you have looked

The wall of faces is the part most people describe first. It is not only that it feels shallow — it is that it feels like being weighed. For someone who spent decades known completely by one person, being reduced to a thumbnail and a swipe is not a small indignity.

Then there is the explaining. On most apps your circumstance is something you have to introduce, usually in a message, usually to someone who has not earned it. You end up managing another person’s reaction to the worst thing that ever happened to you.

Here neither happens. The status is known in advance, and there is no wall of faces because there is no feed. One person, chosen carefully, with the reasoning shown to you.

On the question you have probably been asked

Whether it is too soon. Whether it is fair. Whether wanting company again means the marriage you had mattered less than you say it did.

We are not qualified to settle that, and we would be suspicious of any company that claimed to be. What we can say is that a great many people arrive at this question, that most of them arrive at it alone, and that the ones who found someone again almost never describe it as replacement. A life can hold both. Most of them do.

How the app treats your circumstance

Widowed is a status, not a story you owe anyone

It is on your profile and part of the matching. You are never required to write about it, and nobody you meet will be learning it from you for the first time.

Nobody is browsing you

There is no stack of profiles and no gallery you appear in. You are shown to one person at a time, and only to someone the matching has already judged compatible with you.

Every member has proved who they are

A government-issued identity document, checked before anyone can be matched. Romance fraud targets people who are grieving more than any other group, and a selfie check is not protection against it. An identity document is.

Children and faith are settled first

Grown children, faith, where you want to live, what the next chapter looks like. These are absolutes in the matching, not preferences someone might have skimmed.

There is no clock

No streaks, no expiring matches, no nudges to hurry. If you need to put the app down for three months, nothing is lost and nobody is notified.

And the app stays afterwards

Once you have met someone, the app becomes something else: a private journal for what you are learning about them, gentle daily suggestions for how to show up, questions worth asking over dinner, milestones and a private monthly check-in. A counsellor directory and a mentor community are being built and are not open yet. What happens after the match.

Questions

Is there a dating app for widows and widowers?

Date to Marry is built for people whose goal is marriage, and widowed members are a first-class part of that. Marital status is stated on the profile, so it is known before an introduction rather than explained afterwards, and matching weighs children, faith and timeline as absolutes.

How long after losing a spouse should I wait before dating?

Nobody can answer that for you, and the people who try are usually answering for themselves. A gentler test than time elapsed: can you think about a future without it feeling like a betrayal? If not yet, there is no clock here.

Do I have to talk about my late spouse?

Only when you want to. Your marital status is on your profile so that nobody is surprised, but nothing obliges you to explain, justify or perform your loss. The people you are matched with already know, and chose to be there.

I am not confident with apps. Is this complicated?

No. There is no feed to learn, no swiping, no stack of profiles to keep up with. You answer questions once, verify who you are, and then you are shown one person at a time with a written explanation of why. Most of the app is reading and deciding, not operating.

Ready to date with intention?

It is live on iPhone and Android. One person at a time, chosen for what actually predicts a lasting marriage.
